At age 11, my daughter was diagnosed with a relatively rare kidney disorder. It took the doctors more than two years to confirm her condition. During this time, we prayed for an answer while facing the hard reality of her future prognosis. We eventually learned that there was a simple and rapid test that could have diagnosed her condition within minutes. However, the test had never been commercialized by the inventor. Nearly 95% of all scientific discoveries are never commercialized. They are often discovered using taxpayer dollars, but the inventions sit dormant in the IP portfolios of research institutions. After my daughter's experience, I made it a personal mission to design methodologies to seek out these technologies and do what I could to see them brought to market.
